Happy National Oyster Day!

Happy National Oyster Day

Can you believe it? It's that time of year again. For some it is "back to school time" season. Along with that comes with "tax free weekend" where you can buy selected items without paying sales tax. Also for many this is the winding down of summer vacation and everyone is returning back to their respective home towns. And then there is National Oyster Day, today, August 5, 2013. I am sure there are tons of ways to celebrate this delicious food holiday. Awww shucks, you could come up with all kinds of recipes or just eat them plain raw at your local oyster bar.  Here is one web site that is dedicated to this slimy mullosk day National Oyster Day. Enjoy for now.

Happy National Chicken Wing Day

Happy National Chicken Wing Day

Wow! I did not know that such as day existed until a co-worker said it to me. According, to the National Chicken Wing Day's Facebook fan page, this awesome day was founded on this day in 1977 by then Buffalo, NY mayor Stan Makowski. And the rest as they say is history.

Hooters is offering an all you can eat wing special for just $12.99 which is not bad considering you may pay more just for purchasing an order for two.

Geek Yelp badge earned! And Wendy's drive thru experience

Geek Yelp badge earned! And Wendy's drive thru experience

Geek Yelp badge I earned
Yelp! Geek badge
As most of my friends and acquaintances know, I go antiquing, garage sale hoping thrift store and Goodwill shopping looking for vintage items and I also blog about it on blog.iHaveTo$ellEVERYTHING.com. In one of my ventures to a garage sale I bought some Pokemon cards. Now I am not really a fan of the card games but I figured they may be worth something to someone since they are collectible. So I visited a Play N Trade shop but the person advised me to come back later when someone with more expertise in that area could assist. He did mention that the Magic Gathering cards are most collectible items so I will start looking for those too. I left there without checking into Yelp! Arrrgh! Oh well. So I headed over to Davinci's Dreamworks shop to see if they could advise me on these Pokemon cards. Along the way, of course, I am getting hungry. Passed a Wendy's and figured I would come back around and get the Cod fillet meal. I talked with the clerk and he was able to look at the cards and basically said that there were not any rare cards in the bunch and too many commons. After leaving out the door I pulled up Yelp on my phone and checked-in and *ding*  I earned the Geek Yelp badge. Wohooo. Apparently, checking into Radio Shack twice and then Davinci's earned this prestigious metal.

So now I am headed to Wendy's to get that Premium North Pacific Cod Fillet meal that I was craving. To be honest I thought it had been discontinued since it usually runs in a limited time. A couple weeks earlier I went to another Wendy's and they did not have it. But as I pulled up to the the drive-thru I saw the little sign sticking up out of the ground advertising it. "Shweet!", so I thought. It's funny I notice Wendy's will advertise a combo for a certain price and when you order it they ask you which size? I just figured if a business shows you a price for a combo then they should  sell that when the customer places the order. Anyway, so I said a medium please. There were 2 card in front of me but I did not have to wait very long surprisingly. Pulled up to the window and got my meal and the clerk closed the window immediately. Does anybody else hate this maneuver? It's the "don't ask for anything else we got your money now go move". This must be industry standard for Quick Service Restaurants. Because I know I asked her while I was receiving the meal "may I please have some ketchup?" I mean it's a given that there is not going to be any condiments in the bag. So the window closed and I sat in my car staring in the drive-thru window mouthing "may I have some ketchup please?". So about 1 minute later the same manager opens the window with no smile, no "how can I help you sir?". Just looking back at me and waiting for me to initiate the conversation. So, I say "may have some ketchup please?" with a smile of course. Then as if on cue I get one of those fancy ketchup packages. You know the one where you can open it for dipping or use it as a squeezer? Did I mention just one? Normally, I receive 2 from these quick service places. After kindly taking my solo ketchup package the drive-thru window closed rather quickly not even enough time to ask for another. For that I give this Wendy's a 2 stars out of 5 for drive-thru customer service.

Now about this meal *sigh*. Not the best I have had from a Wendy's. The fish seemed to be overcooked and the breading was a little off. The fries however, were actually not bad at all. For the drink I chose to get sweet ice tea which was good since I did not ask for lite ice like I have to with McDonald's.

Overall the main part of the meal was below average but the sides were on point. The customer service in my opinion could have been better with even for a drive-thru experience. For instance, Chic-fil-a's clerks always smile and ask do you need any condiments. Sometimes it's just the little things that make you come back for a second and third trip.

1000th check-in on Yelp!

Wow I can't believe I got over 1000 check-ins on Yelp. Is there a badge for that? I guess not because it by me with little fan fare. Alas, while the check-ins still pile on my reviews of course are lagging :(.

At the time I started writing this post I do not have any friends on my Yelp list. I do not know how big a deal that is to Yelp but to me it really does not matter. I will eventually get some but I am not going to be pushy about it. I sorta like focusing on the check-ins since I am always on the go. Hence, the name of this blog, Drive-by Eater: The Foodie On The Go! Not all of my check-ins are for take outs, dine-ins, or grocery shopping. I actually find time to go to a park, an apartment complex or drop some kids off to school. Hey it's my life and the totality of the drive-by eater. So reaching this 1000th check-in plateau was not a big task for me to accomplish.

Hopefully, I can reach another thousand check-ins within the 2-year time or less it took me to get to the first thousandth. And I am sure there are other 1000; 10,000 and beyond check-inners out there in Yelp land. Is there a club for this? Oh yeah the Elite club :). Well I am not trying to be an elist just yet. I still have to get my reviews down pack. At least some quality reviews.

Ok enough of my babbling. Time to go get more check-ins!

Yelp! Tree hugger badge

If you did not know I am a Yelper. I have just received the tree hugger badge. I did not even realize I was approaching the requirements for that award. So thanks, Yelp. To receive this badge of honor I had check-ins at 3 "parks". Apparently it does not matter if it is a ball park such as a baseball stadium or a park that has playgrounds and picnic tables and trees and...well you get the picture. These check-in were days apart and the parks were in the same city but miles away from each other if that makes a difference.

Still here

I am still learning the blog sphere. I got side tracked with some other things I have going on like eBay :). I am currently trying to get rid of so much clutter and old items I have owned for many years since childhood. So that has been taking up my time from blogging and writing my reviews of some places I have been lately. Especially the bad ones blah!

Happy new year!

Well I didn't get a chance to blog about my foodie experiences in 2012. But oh well here is 2013 and I will talk about it. If you see my Yelp account you would think I was always eating on the go. Hence, drivebyeater.com.
